Leelanau County

Some translate Leelanau to mean the "Land of Delight." This pinkie-finger peninsula in the northwest of Michigan's fabled mitten delivers the definition of joy. The grand inland sea of Lake Michigan surrounds rolling hills where dots of picturesque towns connect across lakes, woods, and rural county roads. Historical charm flourishes in the form of lighthouses, schoolhouses, and old farm buildings that age gracefully in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Lush farms produce fresh vegetables, cherries, apples, and wine. The Manitou Islands entice with Indian and settlers' lore and marine history. Year-round sports abound throughout the region offering hiking, camping, picnicking, dune climbing, golf, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, or just relaxing in the natural wonders and friendly villages. There is a sense of serene energy that pervades the sparkling lakes and rivers, and mixes with the pungent air of cool pine forests. Leelanau County intrinsically is…pure delight.
